New traditions, new experiences, and a new year! The whole family went to the center of town at the church plaza to ring in the new year with the rest of the village. We brought our grapes and dancing shoes! There was a band playing in the far corner and the plaza was packed with people from the very young to the very old. As the announcer came on to announce the countdown for eating our grapes, we all got ready. Summer was the only one who was able to eat all her grapes in time. Dave and I struggled with the seeds. Luie still had 5 grapes left after the countdown. You can see the look of determination on Summer’s face. We have all been laughing at her expression, but she was a good sport to let me include the photo. So according to the belief, Summer will have good luck all year. The consolation for the rest of us is that we were wearing our lucky red undies! The fiesta continued with visiting and dancing until 3:00am.
Yup, red underwear! Saffron had to be in the picture too, since she is always wearing red. Luie loved his red undies so much that I had trouble keeping him dressed. He wanted to run around in just his underwear. Fun, laughter, and lasting memories, what a great way to bring in the new year!
HAPPY NEW YEAR !!!You just brightened my morning.
Oh good! That is always nice to hear.
Happy New Year to All of you!
Happy New Year to you too!
Ha Ha Ha!! How totally adorable you all look and how fun!! I didn’t know exactly how to eat the grapes except to have twelve at once and we did it both days. Dan and Vida had dinner with us today. We didn’t have any red undies though! Darn!
That is awesome that you incorporated a little Spanish tradition in your celebrations! Happy New Year!
Hey there, We loved the snaps of all the family. You are good sports …..Grapes, red underware, and smiles. Congrats. Summer and we are happy to hear good luck is yours.(that’s. good thing). A & S
Haha, thanks! It was harder than I thought eating those grapes! In my can of good luck grapes I ended up having 13 grapes instead of 12 so I have a little bit extra good luck too!!!
