Written by Dave:  So the rainy weather finally broke, and the sun came out for a day.  I decided to take the kids for a walk down Main street.  They were excited to go out and hit the town for a while.  We had looked up some geocaches that we would try to find, and the kids were anxious and ready to give it a try.  It turns out the monkeys were happy to have improved weather also, and came down off the rock to town for a visit.

One monkey in particular left the others and came down onto main street.  I don’t know why he struck off on his own, but here he was sitting in front of a lingerie shop.  He didn’t enter, but the shop was concerned that he might.

As he moved farther down main street, a crowd started to gather.  He didn’t really seem to mind, and mostly ignored everyone.  The man near the monkey on the phone is part of a group that is called to help get monkeys out of town when they come in.  It seems the monkeys have no fear of humans, and are starting to come into town much more frequently.  A month ago we read how a monkey got into Notre Dame School while children were inside.  There has been an increase in monkey bites, and almost sixty people were treated in 2012 for monkey bites.  A recent report stated that they may ship half of the population to North Africa to try to decrease excursions into town.

The monkey really was in no hurry to go anywhere.  After a while, he went up the road and headed back towards the rock.

The kids loved the trip through town, and the monkey really was a highlight for them.  It isn’t every day you see a monkey while you are walking down main street.  You never know what you will see.
