Lesser Town Prague Czech Republic

The Lesser Town is also called Little Quarter (Malá Strana) and is located across the river from the Old Town.  The name comes from its position on the west bank of the river, in contrast to the larger town of Prague on the east bank.

Our first Glimpse of the Lesser Town. It is not nearly as crowded on this side.  But it is still full of interesting places to see.

Entrance to Prague Castle, Czech RepublicThe Prague castle sits on a hill overlooking Lesser Town.  It is one of the largest ancient castles in the world.  For centuries, the kings of Bohemia ruled from here.  Today, it is used by the President of the Czech Republic.

The tallest and most remarkable building inside the Prague Castle complex is the St. Vitus Cathedral.

This Gothic Cathedral contains the tomb of King Wenceslas I of Bohemia, a.k.a. “Good King Wenceslas”(from the Christmas Carol).
