The Safari Park is affiliated with the zoo.  It is essentially a zoo onto itself.  But they do offer different adventures that you can take also.  They also have shows and animal demonstrations.  Entrance to the Safari park was included in the tickets Dave bought, so we decided to check it out.  We were surprised with how big it was and how much they had to offer.

We took a Safari Tram ride through a savannah like area of the park.

The bird show was a favorite for all of us.  We saw a variety of birds do tricks and demonstrations.  They added a lot humor to the show as well.  We kept thinking how much grandpa would have loved seeing all those interesting birds.

The cheetah run.  This big white dog is the companion to the cheetah and always runs first to demonstrate the safety of the track.  They explained how they pair a domesticated animal with a wild animal. So when the cheetah sees the dog running at ease, she knows it is safe.

The cheetah was amazingly fast and we had our cameras set to burst mode in order to catch it as it was running.  It ran the 330 foot track in just over 5 seconds.  Cheetahs can go 0-70 mph in just 4 seconds.  They are the fastest land animal.

It was fun to see all the baby animals at the park.  We watched this baby gorilla play with that box for a long time, until it threw it over the ledge.

So cute.

This baby elephant is only a week old.  We were lucky to get to see him, since his mother usually keeps him in the shelter.

It was a great day, full of more things than we anticipated.  Discovering, walking, taking pictures, laughing, and having fun with family.
