We started our Paris adventure taking the Metro to the Charles De Gaulle station.  From there we got out right at the Arc de Triomphe.   The Arc de Triomphe is the in the middle of a large busy roundabout.  You walk down stairs and walk through a tunnel to get to the Arch.

We walked east down the Champs-Elysees past nice shops and cafes.

We were heading toward Rue Cler to pick up some lunch for a picnic near the Eiffel tower.  I had read Rick Steves‘ and he mentioned the good food that could be found there.  It is pretty fun to walk around the corner and have this view!  More on the Eiffel tower in the next post.

We had seen the cute little colorful macaroons at a number of places and so we were anxious to try them.  They are 5 for 6 euro at this shop, but we found a box of 12 in the grocery store the next day for 6 euro.  They are soft and delicious and come in a variety of flavors.

We got two fresh baguettes, 2 chèvre and spinach quiches, a large box of fresh frites with a seasoned mayo dipping sauce, and some chicken pieces.  So delicious!  We have been eating very very well on this trip!

Summer gets a chocolate crepe.

A Fromagerie!  I had to go in and get some cheese.  I chose a Gruyere cheese.

At the Louvre!  Unfortunately it closed only a few minutes after we got there, so we weren’t able to go in.  Summer was particularly sad that she didn’t get to see the Mona Lisa.  Well, we will have to make sure we make it next time.

Written by Luie:  I wanted to go up to the top of the Basilica and we did not go to the top.  We just went half way to the top.  And there were people trying to get other people to sign a paper and give money.  And some people were trying to sell some Eiffel towers to people.  There was so much rain, so at one place we found an umbrella that we bought.

By Luie:  It was so fun riding on the Metro and sometimes I got to sit by the window.  We rode to Paris.
