Berlin Germany

Walking around Berlin.

Berlin is not only the capital of Germany, but it is also a huge city.  Berlin’s population is over 3 million.  It is the second largest city in the European Union.  So, there is a lot to see and do in Berlin.  But we have gotten into the habit of saying “we can’t do it all, so we will just enjoy what we can!”

The Berlin Cathedral in the photos above and below, is the largest church in Berlin.

Just across the street from the Cathedral is the Altes Museum.  It is Berlin’s oldest museum.  While we did not make it to this museum, we did make it to several others.  They will be featured in the next two posts.

On the large walkway in front of the museum, was a display of peoples photos.  These are special people who contributed to the great diversity of Berlin in the 1920’s.

We walked past Humboldt University and then came to the Deutscher Dom.

The Deutscher Dom was completed in 1708, but was badly damaged during the war.  It was restored in the 1980’s and 90’s.  It is not used as a church, but has a permanent display of German Parliament.

Something interesting you notice as you are walking around Berlin, are the street lights.  The man with the hat is so popular, that there are many things in the stores featuring this design.

Berlin is amazing, there is just so much to see.  We were fortunate to see the Pergamon Museum and the Museum of the Wall.  Each will be featured in upcoming posts!

Until next time, Auf Wiedersehen and Guten Tag!

  1. I can’t wait for more. Especially about the Wall. I have read about this extensively and talked to many people who were there before it came down.

    1. Walking next to The Wall, and seeing the old pictures, really affected me more than I expected. It wasn’t that long ago when people were still dying while trying to escape east Germany.
