We have been noticing that many of the little shops in town have a large selection of red underwear.  This includes the little mercadillos at the Thursday market.  It turns out that red underwear is traditionally given to ALL members of the family at Christmas, and the underwear are worn on New Years Eve to bring good luck for the new year.

When I mentioned that I wanted to do a post on the red underwear, Dave joked that it would be awkward to post a picture of us sitting in our underwear.  Of course there is no fear of that happening!  But I will soon be posting more on the other Christmas traditions that we have been learning about.

At this time of year, I can’t help but think of seasons past.  I was often stressed and busy, shopping and baking, planning and sending, and not really enjoying.  This year is much different in many ways.  Things are slower, simpler, and more focused on family.  It is not about more stuff, but about quality time together.  This is the season for family and we are missing our extended family and friends back home.  Sending you all wishes for health, laughter, adventure, and good luck.  But, your going to have to buy your own underwear!

    1. Great to hear from you Dottie! Merry Christmas to you too! I heard that in some parts of Spain, they have a running race on New Years Eve, all while wearing their red underwear of course. How funny would that be!

      1. Even if you don’t post the pictures of you guys in your new, Spanish, red underwear, I hope you take some pics and enjoy bringing in the New Year the right way, with your lovely red underwear and lots of luck! 🙂

  1. It’s these sort of things that I love about traveling. Now I want to visit Spain during Christmas and buy a pair of red underwear! Very cool.
