Plitvice National Park Croatia

Absolutely stunning.  Many years ago I came across a photo of Plitvice and was completely smitten.  Since then it has been on my travel wish list and it was thrilling to visit in person.

Plitvice National Park is located in the mountains and so it is pretty crisp in September.  By mid day it warms up nicely, but morning and evening are brisk enough that you see your breath.  It is also much less crowded this time of year, and that makes a huge difference.

Walking around and between the chain of cascading lakes is completely enchanting.  There seems to be waterfalls everywhere you look.

The lakes themselves are also quite beautiful and amazingly clear.

The colors are surreal.  There are many boardwalks that bring you up close to the lakes and waterfalls.

The cliffs, caves, and woods surrounding the lakes adds to the beauty of the park.

The whole family enjoyed taking pictures and between the 4 of us, we ended up with nearly 1000 photos.

I have read from other bloggers that visited Plitvice in the summer, that it was so crowded, it ruined their visit.  As you can see from the above photo, the narrow boardwalks do make it easy for people to be stuck waiting in long lines as everyone is taking pictures.

My next post will be my Top 5 Tips for visiting Plitvice National Park.
