Granada Tapas Tour

We love tapas.  It is one of the many things we love about Spain.  So, when Summer found us a tapas tour in Granada that was rated #1 on tripadvisor, we had to try it.

Gayle of Granada Tapas Tours

This is Gayle, our lovely host, and the manager of Granada Tapas Tours.

I knew I was going to like her from the moment I saw her colorful coat and big smile.

She first asked us about our food preferences and then she took us off the beaten tourist track, to enjoy authentic Granada.

At our first stop we learned history not only about Granada but about the quaint little tapas bar.

Our first tapas was a salad with beans olives, peppers, onions, tomatoes, and more.  Delicious!

Then off we go to continue our tapas tasting adventure.

As we walked through different places, Gayle pointed out monuments or buildings and told us the history of the area.  She also kept our little Luie busy looking for pomegranates, the symbol of the city.

Our next stop was a tapas bar that had been an old cobblers workshop with an extra room where he would serve his customers beer while they waited for their shoes.

patatas and quail eggs tapas

We loved our potato tapas topped with quail eggs.  Yup, those cute little eggs are quail eggs.

Our time with Gayle flew by.  She is a wealth of information about Granada and Spain.  We loved visiting with her.  She has such a happy energy that is completely infectious and delightful!

piononos Granada Tapas Tour

At the end of the tour, Gayle recommended that we try Piononos for dessert.  Piononos are a pastry that are named after Pope Pius IX.  It is made with a thin layer of pastry that is rolled into a cylinder with syrup and fermented then topped with a toasted cream.  It is a specialty in this area of Spain.  I, personally, was not a big fan of this dessert, but I am always happy to try something new.

What a lovely afternoon!  We all thoroughly enjoyed our tapas tour.  Not only did we have delicious food and drinks, but we also learned more about Granada, and met a new friend.  It is days like these when I really feel like I am living the good life!

And Gayle, if you read this, Thank you so much for everything.  You are wonderful!
