We had the chance to visit the Quartermaster Depot with our dear friends Darwyn and Gem.  We learned some interesting Yuma history while we walked around the park.  This Depot was used by the Army to store and distribute supplies for all the military posts in the Southwest.  Supplies were sent by ship from California, around the Baja peninsula to the mouth of the Colorado River and then brought up the River to Yuma by River Steamers.

Notice the wooden plank road displayed under this old car.  This was the road that they built to travel across the sand dunes of the desert.  I thought it was fascinating and took a picture of the sign so you could read more about it.

Luie was getting pretty hot toward the end of the walking tour.  Here he is dripping with sweat, but still smiling!

Thank goodness for Darwyn and Gem who are used to desert living and always prepared with lots of water!

Summer was excited to see a pomegranate tree.  This is one of her favorite fruits.

  1. Fascinating! I love pomegranates too and never realized, for some odd reason, that they grew on trees. I love learning new things and know I’ll learn a lot of new things as you continue on your adventure.
